Global Korea Scholarships (GKS) 2022-2023 for Overseas Students: Study free in Korea!

Global Korean Scholarships (GKS) has announced the 2022-2023 batch and for this, they started entertaining online applications from all international students who wish to study in top Korean Universities.

Global Korea Scholarships are also known as the GKS Scholarships, this fully-funded scholarship opportunity currently available to everyone. This program was formerly referred to as the Korean Government Scholarship as well.

This initiative was taken by the Korean Government and this GKS scholarship program seeks to attract 1,278 overseas students to pursue a full-time masters or a doctoral degree from 2022 onwards in Top Korean Universities. This incentive is presented to enable overseas students with possibilities to pursue higher studies in undergraduate and graduate programs at colleges and universities in the Republic of Korea with the purpose to enhance worldwide educational exchanges and meaningful friendships.

Since the submission of the GKS Scholarship Application is online, there is no cost or fee for the registration for filing the application for the GKS scholarship. There are some set limits on who is eligible and who’s not; explained in this article. What does the GKS Scholarships Cover?

What are the Available Academic Fields?

For Masters and Ph.D. students, the Korean government offers the Global Korea Scholarships (GKS), which covers all educational areas and specializations. However, candidates will have to select majors (areas of study) from a selection of options available exclusively in the “University Information” document.

What is the Korean Scholarships Duration?

  • Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years

This four-year program comprises a year of the Korean language program and then three years of the regular degree program. 

  • Master’s Degree Program: 3 years

The master’s program involves the candidate studying one year of the Korean language program and then two years of the regular degree. 

  • Research Program: 6 Months

The research-based degrees in Korean Universities are offered in Science and engineering niches; where candidates earn their doctoral degrees under the supervision of experienced Korean professors working on state of the art research projects.

Eligibility Conditions of GKS Global Korea Scholarship:

  • Nationality:

All candidates, as well as their parents, cannot be residents of Korea. Korean citizens and double citizenship owners (those who have both Korean and foreign citizenship) are eligible to enroll. Therefore, overseas Koreans can apply as well. 

  • Age Criteria:

To be able to apply, the candidate has to be under the age of 40 as of 1st September 2021.

  • Mandatory Degrees:

To be admitted in a Master’s Program, aspirants should have or be anticipated to have a Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree to be accepted in a Ph.D. Degree Program. Research Program Applicants are obligated to have a degree or an educational qualification equivalent to or higher compared to a Master’s degree and need to have obtained an acceptance from one of NIIED’s authorized Korean universities. Postdoctoral Research Programs are mandated to have a doctoral degree or a level of knowledge equivalent to a doctoral degree.

Any candidates who are scheduled to graduate at the time of application need to initially submit the certificate of expected graduation at the time of applying.

  • English Language Requirements/Certificate.
  • Student exchange is not permitted during the program; for example, the candidate cannot begin their studies in the senior year. They have to start fresh. 
  • Applicants must be in good mental and physical health to reside in another country for an extended period of time.

To apply, the candidates must go to the official website of the GKS program and fill up their online application. When is the Deadline for Global Korean Scholarships (GKS)?

The application deadline for the batch of 2022-2023 of the Global Korea Scholarship Program differs from region to region and from the area’s Korean embassy in the candidate’s country. It is vital that every candidate confirms the deadline for the registration process as an obligation via approaching their respective embassy or the preferred college/university directly.
