If you think mascara and lash extension are the only best ways to boost your lashes then, you have probably not tried lash lifts. You can naturally make your eyelashes longer, thicker and beautiful with lash lift. It is known to be a semi-permanent technique without the use of any leave-on chemicals or extensions.

That sounds good, but keeping to the instructions from the technician is important to make the effort worth it. Usually, you will be instructed to keep any form of liquid away from your eyes for at least 24 hours of your post-lash lift.

A lady sent an email to me recently and here is a summary of what she sent “I got my lashes wet after lash lift” (what should I do?). I sent her some suggestions and would be sharing the tips in this article.

There are two ways to go about fixing a wet lash lift. If you get your lash lift wet excessively, you will have to clean it and reapply after about 4 weeks. But if it is minimal, then just carefully re-lift the washed area immediately so as to ensure that you get a desired result.

Before we look into how to follow steps to follow when you are reapplying your lash lift, let’s briefly see how it works.

Lash Lift

How Does Lash Lift Work?

A lash lift, unlike lash extensions, only modifies the natural shape and color of your lashes. It can be easily compared to a perm for your eyelashes. Most people’s eyelashes grow outward instead of upward. However, lash lift can modify it to suit your taste.

When preparing for your lash lift, you are advised to keep makeup and oil away from your eyelids or eye area after which the technician then uses a non-toxic adhesive to adhere a silicone mold or shield to the eyelid.

The technician applies the silicone mold on the eyelid and then uses glue to produce a curl by bending the mold upward and outward. The outcome will become apparent once the lashes have been attached to the shield and separated. It is important to add that it is only the upper lashes that are used for the service.

For the best result, a perm solution (a chemical solution that lies between the root and middle of the lash) would sit on the eyelash roots for 10 to 15 minutes. It. Later, eyelash will be detached after it has been placed in the mold in order to give it a lovely curl before applying the perm solution.

Although the processing time is dependent on the thickness of the hair, a regular case could be as little as five minutes.

How Does Getting Lash Lift Wet Affect the Outcome?

Although, a tiny drop of water might not totally ruin the result of your lash lift, but would definitely have an effect. To be explanatory enough, getting your lash lift wet before 24- 48 hours makes your lashes drop and lose shape right away, resulting in devaluing the whole procedure and wasting your money.

Thus, it is important to keep any water or moisture in contact with your lashes so as to prevent it from modifying the bonds that have already chemically hardened in the cortex of your hair. For that case, refrain from entering the kitchen.

How to Fix a Wet Lash Lift

One thing that is inevitable is mistakes, but the way you deal with it afterwards is what really matters. Bear in mind that you have to give at least 4-week difference to the previous lash lift to ensure that your lash lift is healthy to undergo another process.

The following tips will guide you when fixing your wet lash lift.

  1. Dry the wet lash lift with cotton wool
  2. Apply the adhesive lashes
  3. Use a permanent lotion
  4. Use the repair lotion
  5. Brush off your lashes
  6. Use the nourish lotion

1. Dry the wet lash lift with cotton wool

If your lash lift gets wet beyond what you can simply re-lift, just get a cotton wool to dry the water as the chemical solution applied would have melted. Wait till after 10 minutes before you move to the next step.

2. Apply the adhesive lashes

As you adhere your eyelashes on the lift pad, apply adhesive to them using a stick. Lift the lashes with the lash comb after waiting 30 seconds for the adhesive to harden. Make sure they are straight and spaced equally. If more adhesive is required to secure them all, use it, then let it dry.

This time, be careful not to tear up or mistakenly wash your face before 24-48 hours. But if you tear up again, use a cotton wool to immediately dry the water for the lash list to sit right.

3. Use a permanent lotion

Use a cotton bud to apply a dollop of the perm lotion included in the lash lift kit to the lower half of your lashes (lash root area). The lashes will become loose if the lotion is rubbed all over them. Depending on your lash thickness, wrap the lashes in cling film and wait 12 to 15 minutes.

4. Use the repair lotion

Gently wipe away the perm lotion without touching the ends of your lashes with a cotton bud. Then use the fix lotion to carry out the same procedure. Wait eight minutes while the cling film is covering.

5. Brush off your lashes

Clear your lashes of any residue using the cleaner and a cotton bud. To prevent the lashes from over-curling in a day or two, make sure they are completely free of any glue. Remove the pads from your eyelids with care.

6. Use the nourish lotion

After combing your lashes, gently apply the nurture lotion. This is to prevent your lashes from getting excessively thickened. Then you are done. But remember that getting your lash lift wet before 24 hours has no good impact. Hence refrain from anything that could trigger it.

How to Prevent Your Lash Lift From Getting Wet

The following are the tips that will help you avoid getting your lashes wet

1. Don’t go to the kitchen

Are you surprised to read that? Not only liquid based stuff can ruin your lash lift but the heat and steam inside the kitchen also melt and loose the bonds of the lashes making them lose their shapes. Thus, you might have to refrain from that if you want your lash lift to last longer.

2. Avoid crying

This is another obvious cause of wet lash lift. You are right, tears are not water but the moisture that comes from it will definitely wash down the solution chemical set on the lashes therefore preventing your lashes from properly set in.

3. Don’t shower before 24 hours

The steam and the minuscule drips that inevitably circulate through the air while taking a shower is equivalent to getting your lashes wet even if you try to keep your face dry and avoid having your face wet. That is why it is usually advisable to have a proper bath before going for the lash lift appointment.

4. Don’t apply mascara

As much as it is optionally okay to apply mascara on your lashes, it is prohibited in the first 48 hours of your post lash lift. It qualifies liquid based that can make the already straightened lashes fall and lose bonds. So, it is important to wait at least two days for your post lash lift.

5. Avoid Swimming

Even if you decide to wear shades or any glasses that could prevent water from reaching your eyes, it will be unrealistic to think your lash lift will be safe. It is not possible that a drop of water will not contact your eyes. You are kindly advised to refrain from swimming for the first 2 days of your lash lift.

Applying chemicals to the lashes changes their structure and performs the lash lift. They must first be relaxed and straightened before being fixed into an upward curl in the following stage.

Conclusion

The general consensus is that water destroys the lash lift, if you get it wet, you will have to wait for 4-6 weeks before your lashes are strong enough to undergo another round of processing as damaged lashes need time to heal. For a quick recovery, you can be applying a high-quality lash serum daily or treating your lashes with nutritious coconut or castor oil.
