Lip balm is an essential item for any socially active and well-adjusted person. You can’t get through the day or week without putting on lip balm multiple times. But do you realize that many people have been eating and enjoying their favourite lip balms all along?

Some people lick their lips to feel more confident in a situation, or just to feel something on their dry lips. In the process of licking your lips, you have ingested a possible toxic or sugary substance. You are a big fan of lip balm. You apply it in the morning before work and again at any opportunity throughout the day. But you’ve always wondered, Is lip balm edible?

Yes, lip balm can be eaten. Lip balm is made of wax and oil, which are both edible. The ingredients in lip balm include petroleum jelly, which is also known as Vaseline. Petroleum jelly is made from crude oil, and it can be eaten or drunk safely. Other ingredients include beeswax and shea butter, which are both edible also.

Reasons Lip Balm Is Edible

Lip balm is a great beauty product, but it’s also edible. In fact, you can eat lip balm in several different ways.

Here are five reasons why lip balm is edible:

1. All the ingredients are natural

All the ingredients are natural. Lip balm is made with all-natural ingredients like beeswax, cocoa butter and shea butter, so it’s safe for people with allergies or sensitivities to other products.

Beeswax is a wax produced by bees for use in the construction of honeycombs, inside which they store honey and pollen collected from flowers. It has been used extensively throughout history as a hardener in food products such as cheese and wine containers.

2. It tastes good

The flavour depends on which one you choose, but most people find that their favourite lip balm also tastes good enough to eat.

We know that this might sound like a strange reason to make a lip balm edible, but we believe that the way you taste something can be just as important as what it tastes like.

If you’re eating something, you take more time to experience all of its nuances. You get to think about how it feels in your mouth, how it smells and sounds when you eat it your whole mouth is engaged in the process of tasting something.

And if you find that one flavour doesn’t suit your fancy. just try another. You have got plenty to choose from.

3. Eating it in an emergency situation may save your life

Things Not to Do With Lip Balm

There are some things you shouldn’t do with your lip balm, and we want to make sure that you’re not doing any of these things. Check out my list below, and then please don’t do these things with your lip balms:

1. Don’t use your lip balm as an eye makeup remover

It is tempting to use your lip balm as an eye makeup remover when you’re in a pinch and need to remove your mascara quickly.

But this can cause damage to the delicate skin around your eyes, causing irritation and redness. Instead, try using a gentle hand lotion or baby oil on a cotton swab to remove stubborn eye makeup without damaging your skin.

2. Don’t use lip balm to cover spots or cuts

Lip balm is for your lips, not for covering up spots or cuts. If you have a cut or a spot on your lip, don’t use lip balm to cover it up.

This is because the ingredients in the lip balm will block your body’s natural healing process and could cause the spot to get worse than when you first noticed it. Instead, try using an antibacterial ointment to keep the area clean and healing properly.

3.  Don’t use lip balm to moisturize your scalp

Lip balm is made to keep your lips moisturized and protected from the elements, so it’s safe to say that it’s not going to be very effective for your scalp.

Lip balm is formulated with ingredients like petrolatum, which can clog pores and cause acne on your scalp. Instead, try using a head-to-toe moisturizer that you can apply to both your hair and scalp.

4. Don’t put it in your eyes

The chemicals in lip balm can cause irritation if they come into contact with your eyes, which may lead to redness and pain.

Lip balms are designed for the specific needs of the skin on your lips, so putting them anywhere else can cause irritation and discomfort in those areas. If you want to treat dryness around your eyes, try applying a thin layer of Vaseline instead, or another type of ointment.

5. Don’t use expired lip balm

If you can’t remember when you last bought your lip balm, throw it out and buy a new one. Some lip balms have an expiration date, but even if yours doesn’t, there are a few telltale signs that your lip balm has gone bad.

It might smell strange or have a chalky texture to it. If these things are happening to your lip balm, it’s time for a replacement.

Lip balms have an expiration date because they’re made with natural ingredients that can go bad after some time. If you’re using an old tube of lip balm that has expired, don’t use it.

Lip balm can go bad if exposed to heat or light for too long, so if your tube has been sitting on a shelf for more than six months, toss it out. Because of fungi.

6. Do not use lip balm as a base for your lipstick

Lipstick and glosses often contain moisturizers to keep your lips hydrated while looking good. But these products also contain solvents that will break down the waxes in your lip balm and make it less effective as a moisturizer.

Lipsticks and glosses also have preservatives added to them to help them last longer on your lips, but these ingredients can irritate sensitive skin or cause allergic reactions in some people.

Instead of using lip balms as bases for lipstick or gloss, try using tinted lip balms instead. These products don’t contain any of these ingredients and won’t interfere with other products you put on top of them.

What if My Child Eats Lip Balm?

If your child eats lip balm, don’t panic. Most lip balms are not toxic, but some are. If you’re concerned about your child eating lip balm, check the ingredients on the label.

Lip balms that contain nuts or nut oils should be avoided. Some flavored lip balms may also contain alcohol, so check for that too. If your child eats lip balm, you should:

  • Check if the lip balm contains any toxic chemicals, such as salicylic acid or lead acetate.
  • Make sure they drink plenty of water and get to a doctor if they have any signs or symptoms of poisoning.
  • Clean up the area where the lip balm was eaten and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

Can You Eat With Vaseline on Your Lips?

You can eat with Vaseline on your lips, but you should only do it on rare occasions. While Vaseline does not taste good and should not be eaten directly from the jar, it is safe to use on your lips before eating or drinking anything.

If you do choose to apply Vaseline to your lips before eating or drinking something that has a strong flavor, like coffee or wine, make sure it has time to soak into your skin before doing so, otherwise, it may end up tasting like Vaseline instead of whatever else you are eating or drinking.

Is It Ok to Eat EOS Lip Balm?

Yes. EOS lip balm is edible, but not tasty.

You may have heard that some people eat their lip balm, but that doesn’t mean it’s something you should try. The truth is that eating lip balm isn’t dangerous, it’s just not very good.

Though it makes sense that most people wouldn’t want to ingest their favorite lip product on purpose, it does happen every now and then. If you accidentally swallow your EOS Lip Balm and start feeling symptoms such as nausea or vomiting after swallowing it, seek medical attention immediately.

Conclusion

I hope this guide has helped clear up some confusion around the use of lip balm, helping you make the right decision if you are trying to choose between safe and unsafe lip balms.

I recommend choosing natural ingredients that you can read on the label, such as coconut oil or olive oil. Avoid artificial flavors, dyes and synthetic chemicals they may be toxic. And remember to always check with a doctor if your lips are really dry and damaged before using any lip balm.
